Discord in MadMax is where a workflow reports. A deploy fails and a thread opens with the details. A release ships and a colored embed lands in #announcements. A weekly digest gets written by an AI agent, approved by a person, and posted on Friday. There are no Discord triggers yet (no slash commands, no message events), so a run starts from a webhook, a schedule, a form, inbound email or an event from another connected app such as GitHub, and Discord is the last mile. Because a Discord thread is a channel, the id create_thread returns can be the channel for the next send_message, so the detail stays out of the main feed and the channel stays readable. Describe it in plain English and MadMax builds the workflow, previews the exact Discord request against real upstream data, and only posts for real once you activate.
What teams build
- A GitHub release event starts the run, an AI summarize step turns the release body into five plain lines, and
send_embedposts them to #releases with the version as the title, a green side bar and a link back to the release. - A monitoring webhook opens an
incident-<service>-<date>thread in #ops withcreate_threadand a one-day archive window, posts the alert body into it, and a send text step pages the on-call engineer with the thread name. - A Friday schedule has an AI agent draft the week's community highlights from a data store your other workflows fill, an approval emails the community manager a one-click approve or reject, and approved drafts post as an embed while rejected ones end quietly.
How it connects
Paste a bot token. In the Discord Developer Portal open your application, go to Bot and use Reset Token to copy a fresh one, then invite the bot to your server with Send Messages (and Create Public Threads if you want the thread operation). Paste the token into Settings → connectors → Discord or from a Discord step's connection picker. Channel ids are numeric: enable Developer Mode in Discord, right-click a channel and choose Copy ID. The token is encrypted at rest and resolved only inside your workspace at run time. See managing connections.
